Grow Benzie Tour: Food for Thought

Grow Benzie is hosting a tour of the local production facility Food For Thought in Honor on February 4, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.    This is an opportunity to see the business model first hand and learn from it’s owner and founder, Tim Young, who will be on hand to give the tour and discuss many of the challenges involved in starting this small food product business.

The mission of Food for thought is to create and raise awareness around just and sustainable food.  They create and market organic and Fair Trade specialty foods that make a difference in people’s lives through their two brands, Food For Thought and Esch Road Foods.  Food For Thought is the original all-organic and wild crafted line of preserves, relish, salsa, and other condiments.  Esch Road Foods is the new line of products that was launched last fall.  Both lines bear many certifications such as gluten-free, GMO-free, and Kosher.  In addition to their own lines, Food For Thought does a great deal of contract packaging for a wide range of companies, some located as far as Chicago while others are close to home.

Tim will discuss some of the insights and pitfalls he’s experienced along with distribution and contract packaging, a subject many of those who have attended Grow Benzie classes have been interested in.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see and learn about this successful local business.

Please note-  the tour begins at Food For Thought’s production facility at 10704 Oviatt Road, Honor, MI 49640, not at Grow Benzie. Parking is available both in front of the building and behind the building. For more information, contact Deb Query, Director, phone 231 882 5197, email growbenzie@gmail.com, www.growbenzie.org.
