Cooking with Kids at the Fair

WHAT:  Oryana Natural Foods Market and the Northwest Michigan Food & Farming Network present a FREE event: “Cooking With Kids at the Fair”

WHEN:  Wednesday, August 7 • 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

WHERE:  The Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds -- 3606 Blair Townhall Road, Traverse City

DETAILS:  Cotton candy and elephant ears are typical fare at fairs, but locally grown fruits and vegetables have become a new tradition with Cooking with Kids at the Fair.

Now in its sixth year, Cooking with Kids at the Fair encourages families to visit the Northwestern Michigan Fair on Wednesday, August 7 between 3 and 7 p.m. In partnership with the Northwest Michigan Food & Farming Network, and along with generous donations from Crystal Mountain Resort and TCAPS, Oryana Natural Foods Market has coordinated a fun-filled event that will turn kids onto the great tastes of healthy recipes and local foods.  There is no cost to participate.

Stop by the shaded fairground gazebo, where a team of restaurant, school, and specialty chefs will teach kids about the benefits of locally-grown foods. Guests will also get hands-on experience creating (and eating!) smoothies, pasta salads, and sandwich wraps, all locally donated.  In addition, a smattering of delicious seasonal recipes will be handed out so that the Cooking with Kids at the Fair lessons can continue at home.
