Northern Michigan Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby

The newly forming Northern Michigan Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby will hold its first, organizational meeting at Horizon Books Lower Level, on September 29th at 10 a.m.

CCL is a non-partisan, nonprofit  organization that seeks to create the political will to pass carbon fee and dividend legislation. Leading scientists agree that 350 ppm of carbon in the atmosphere is what is safe for humans to live on earth.  Due largely to the burning of fossil fuels, we are at 392 ppm and rising quickly.

CCL has the support of many climate scientists that believe putting a price on carbon pollution is the most effective way of addressing this crisis.  Legislation has already been written, and has received bi-partisan support, that is growing every day.  CCL has a realistic plan for addressing the climate crisis.

A CCL Chapter does three basic things:

1. Gathers monthly to become educated  on climate change issues (via a live monthly Saturday call).

2.  Develops a relationship with their legislators, so as to pass on the facts about climate change and to seek common ground for support of carbon fee and dividend legislation.

3.  Educates the community, through letters to the editor, articles, and editorials, on the science of climate change, and its social, health, and economic impacts.
