    Mr. Michael Dillenbeck, Manager
    Grand Traverse County Road Commission
    3949 Silver Lake Road
    Traverse City, MI 49684

    Dear Mr. Dillenbeck:

On behalf of the Traverse City Area Public Schools’ Board of Education, I am writing to request that the Grand Traverse County Road Commission consider all safety concerns regarding the study for the Hartman-Hammond Road and Bridge Project. In particular, please consider the following:

    1. Increased traffic near East Bay and Sabin Elementary Schools would cause a reduction in safety for our elementary students.
    2. The widening of the road near East Bay and Sabin Elementary School would cause increased noise pollution resulting in more classroom distraction and lower academic achievement for students housed in classrooms located by the roadside.
    3. The risk for elementary children walking to and from school and/or to and from bus stops would greatly increase.
    4. The possibility of hazardous materials being transported through this area (close to the elementary schools) would cause more concern than in the past.

Please consider all safety concerns regarding the Hartman-Hammond Road and Bridge Project. We would be happy to speak with you directly regarding our concerns, and respectfully request that you take additional time to make sure the health and safety of our school population is considered and protected.
