The Michigan Land Use Institute began in 1994 as the Manistee County Land Use
Coalition to address the pace and scale of Antrim Shale gas development in rural
northern Michigan.
MCLUC's acronym was pronounced "muk-luk," as in the soft-soled moccasin that
steps lightly and respectfully on the earth. The MCLUC Reporter has been incorporated
into the Great Lakes Bulletin as an ongoing special section.
