Description:  Lots of options, depending on age level! For little ones, we can do things like digging in the compost pile and i.d.-ing the critters we find, 5-senses scavenger hunts for smelly  herbs, different textures of plants, different colored flowers, listening to farm sounds, and of course tasting veggies and herbs.  Also, everyone likes visiting chickens and collecting eggs, and visiting and observing honeybees and maybe even tasting honey.  For older kids, they can do chores, harvest some crops, observe and learn what makes the passive solar hoophouse work in winter or summer, learn about drip irrigation, check the mushroom logs for mushrooms and learn about fungus and oyster mushroom cultivation, and of course visit the chickens and bees.

Description:  You and your students will experience getting away from the typical hustle and bustle of everyday life and learn what a day on the orchard looks like. This is followed by a walking tour of the orchards with presentations and activities dealing with the parts of an apple tree, the life cycle, basic photosynthesis and pollination. These short lessons will be age-appropriate and align with Michigan Standards and Benchmarks for elementary science. Next comes snack time, a favorite among the children! The snack includes an old fashioned doughnut from our bakery and a glass of fresh-pressed Friske Apple Cider. At the end of the tour, students are welcome to visit our petting zoo and are provided with grain to feed the farm animals. The Orchard Playland is available for all to enjoy. When the tour is over, everyone is welcome to come inside the farm market, and browse around the Orchard Cafe, Old World Bakery, Fruit Stand, General Store and the Country Haus gift shop.
