Bill McKibben Lecture: "The Most Important Number in the World"
The Grosse Pointe Public Library will be hosting an evening with Bill McKibben, leading American environmentalist and noted author of The End of Nature, Deep Economy, and other best-selling books on the environment.
His talk is entitled "The Most Important Number in the World: Saving the Planet and Maybe Even the Auto Industry." He will be focusing on the current financial crisis and the potential of a green economy as part of the economic recovery, as well as job creation in industries such as wind and solar energy, transportation, construction and food production.
The program is free, but tickets are required. Tickets will be available at the Grosse Pointe Central Library, 10 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe, Michigan 48236. For further information, please go to the Grosse Pointe Library website. Individuals wishing to attend, who live a distance away from Grosse Pointe, can call Diana Howbert directly at 313-343-2074, ext. 215 and we will arrange to hold their tickets at the door with the understanding that they will notify us in advance if they are unable to attend.
In conjunction with Mr. McKibben's appearance, we would like to showcase our local and regional environmental organizations and we are inviting groups to set up small displays promoting their programs and activities. The display area will be in a large room adjacent to the auditorium (seats 475) and the public will be invited to stop by, before and after the lecture. If you are interested in participating, please call Diana Howbert at 313-343-2074, ext. 215 or email her at dhowbert@gp.lib.mi.us. |
