Carbon Nation Finds Good Business in Climate Change Solutions
Optimistic film launches MLUI’s Monday night Frankfort film series

July 28, 2011 Contact: FRANKFORT—The Michigan Land Use Institute’s Main Street Film Serieskicks off on Monday, Aug. 1, at the Garden Theatre, in Frankfort with Carbon Nation, a documentary about the business of climate change. The first of the series’ three Monday evening films, Carbon Nation is attractive to people who have their doubts about climate change. It looks at a variety of solutions to the problem that also help with other, urgent social, economic and national security issues. Sponsored by Rivet Entertainment, the film is an entertaining, pragmatic primer about why it’s so smart to be part of the new, low-carbon economy: It’s good for business. Attending the film will be good for filmgoers’ bottom lines, too: Each patron will be entered into free drawings for two home-energy audits, LED light bulbs, and other energy- and money-saving items. The evening also includes ashort film about MLUI, produced by Rivet Entertainment. Carbon Nationexudes optimism: It showcases the many creative things people are already doing to curb climate change, create jobs, and cut dependence on fossil fuels. The film profiles a host of entertaining and endearing characters, including visionaries, entrepreneurs, scientists, and everyday people making a difference on energy—and making a better world. More than 200 people were interviewed, including Richard Branson (CEO, Virgin Group), Thomas L. Friedman (New York Times), Former CIA Director James Woolsey, Van Jones (founder, Green For All), and Col. Dan Nolan, U.S. Army (Ret). This film’s bright, pragmatic approach appeals to people across the political spectrum because it celebrates solutions, offers inspiration, and shows the results of taking action.
